About Us
Bethany United Methodist was founded in 1873 as Zion Chapel, part of the Evangelical Association. Though our name has changed over the years, our reason for existing remains the same: to glorify God by making, maturing, and mobilizing disciples for Jesus Christ. We are part of the Eastern PA Conference of the United Methodist Church which is part of the larger United Methodist Church that spans the globe.
Each Sunday we have Sunday School for all ages starting at 9:30 am followed by our Worship at 10:30 am. Each Sunday we sing hymns, hear Scripture read, and listen to a sermon. We would love to have you join us and experience it for yourself. (Check out the worship tab to watch a service, or join us there each Sunday @ 10:30 am)
Meet the Pastor
Pastor Jared has served at Bethany since July of 2017.
He came to Bethany in July 2017 after spending 6 years in youth ministry. Jared grew up in the Mennonite church and experienced a call to ministry in high school. He went to Eastern University for undergrad and Eastern Mennonite Seminary for graduate school. It was through meeting his wife, Elizabeth, and his time in seminary that he began to feel called to pastor in the United Methodist Church (It is a long story that you should ask him about if you want more information). Jared is passionate about growing vibrant Disciples of Christ who seek to share the light and love of Christ in all that they do.
Outside of Bethany, Pastor Jared works for Jubilee Ministries. In his free time, he can be found reading, spending time at Pocono Plateau, at the beach, or cheering on Penn State Football. He also has a large collection of crazy socks, everything from Iguanas eating cheeseburgers to Christmas trees.
Jared was married to his wife Elizabeth in January 2010 and together have a mini zoo (3 dogs and 3 cats). Two of the dogs, Emma and Joey, enjoy coming to church events.
